Short stay / Visa

If you wish to visit Denmark for a short period, you need a visa if you are a citizen of a visa-required country. You can apply for a short-stay visa for Denmark of up to 90 days.

As a general rule, a visa for Denmark may be granted if it is assessed that the applicant will unquestionably leave the country before the visa expires. If there is doubt about this, or if there is uncertainty as to whether the applicant will comply with the conditions of the visa, the authorities will investigate the case further.

There are different guidelines for who can obtain a visa. The visa rules therefore depend on the applicant’s country of origin. Visa-required countries are divided into five main groups, and this classification affects how an application must be prepared.

At KROMANN Law Firm, we specialise in immigration law. We have extensive knowledge of all the rules in this area and many years of experience preparing visa applications. We can therefore provide competent legal advice in connection with your visa application, ensuring you the best possible conditions for approval.

CONDITIONS FOR A VISA IN DENMARK

The following conditions must generally be met in order to be eligible for a visa to Denmark:

  • You must have a valid passport or other valid travel document, valid for at least three months beyond the visa expiry date, and not older than 10 years

  • You must have sufficient financial means to cover your stay and travel

  • You must have travel health insurance

  • You must not be registered as unwanted in the Schengen Information System

  • You must not have been deported or subject to an entry ban in Denmark

  • You must not be listed on EU or UN sanctions lists, or the national sanctions list concerning religious preachers with entry bans

The above are general conditions only, and there may be exceptions or stricter requirements depending on the applicant’s country of origin.

HOST IN DENMARK

If the applicant is a citizen of a country in main group 2–5, a visa can generally only be granted if the applicant has a host in Denmark. In such cases, there are requirements for both the applicant and the Danish host.

The requirements for the Danish host depend on the applicant’s nationality. As a general rule, however, the following applies:

  • The host must confirm that the visit is expected. This is recommended to be done using the Danish Immigration Service’s invitation form

  • The host must have a permanent address in Denmark

  • The host must generally be a Danish citizen or hold a residence permit in Denmark

These conditions may in some cases be waived, just as requirements for the applicant may be stricter in certain situations.

FIND THE RIGHT LAWYER

Visa rules in Denmark are complex and change frequently. It can be difficult to navigate the many requirements, as one must take into account the applicant’s country of origin as well as numerous exceptions. For this reason, we recommend contacting a specialist before submitting a visa application. We unfortunately often see that minor errors in applications result in refusals, which is why legal advice from the outset is recommended.

At KROMANN Law Firm, we have extensive experience in immigration law and can therefore provide experienced and qualified legal advice in connection with your visa application. We can assist with preparing the application and collecting relevant documents to ensure that the application meets the requirements of the Danish Immigration Service.

APPEAL TO THE DANISH IMMIGRATION SERVICE OR THE IMMIGRATION APPEALS BOARD

If a visa application is refused, the decision can generally be appealed.

If the decision is made by a Danish mission abroad, it may be appealed to the Danish Immigration Service. If the decision is made by the Danish Immigration Service, it must be appealed to the Immigration Appeals Board. KROMANN Law Firm has extensive experience in appealing visa refusals and can therefore assist you throughout the entire process.

If you receive a refusal of your visa application, it is important to act quickly so that the decision is appealed within the deadline.
