Foreign adoption

Adoption by non-relatives is the most complex of the listed types of adoption, as it requires approval as an adoptive parent. In order to be approved, you must go through an assessment and training process divided into four phases. In addition, there are different types of approval, including approval for a specific child, general approval, and extended approval.

First, it must be assessed whether the adoptive parent meets the general requirements, including age, health, housing, and financial conditions. Afterwards, you must complete an adoption course, after which your individual resources are assessed. Whether you meet the requirements regarding individual resources is a case-by-case evaluation. Finally, you will receive guidance both before and after the adoption.

The adoption process itself is lengthy and time-consuming. There are many conditions that must be met, documents that must be submitted, and deadlines that must be observed. KROMANN Law Firm can assist you throughout the process so you can focus on building your new family with peace in mind.

We can assist with, among other things:

  • Assessment of the requirements and whether they are met

  • Preparation of the application for approval as an adoptive parent

  • Collection of relevant information for the approval process

  • Correspondence with the Danish Family Court (Familieretshuset)

  • Compliance with deadlines

  • Guidance throughout the process

  • Application for adoption allowance

  • Complaints against decisions made by the adoption panel

If you are considering adoption by non-relatives, contact us today on tel. 8618 1102 or email kontakt@advokatkromann.dk, and we are ready to guide you.

REFUSAL OF APPROVAL AS AN ADOPTIVE PARENT

If you have been refused approval as an adoptive parent, we can assist you in appealing the decision.

A decision made by the adoption panel can be appealed to the Adoption Board (Adoptionsnævnet), while a decision made by the Agency of Family Law (Famileretshuset) can be appealed to the Appeals Board.

If you have received a refusal, it is important to seek legal advice as soon as possible, as there is usually a strict deadline for filing an appeal. Contact us on tel. +45 8618 1102 or email kontakt@advokatkromann.dk so we can represent you in the appeal case. This will give you the best possible chance of having the decision changed.
